Creating a Project

Gareth Casey Updated by Gareth Casey

If you want to edit a recording or any other video, you will need to create a video project to do that.

That can be done in one of two ways - create a new Recording as the starting point of your project or create a completely blank new project and import videos into that.

Recording Your Screen

If you want to use a Recording as the basis of your video project, click the Record Your Screen button on the Hub to open the Recorder.

At the end of each recording, the Preview Window will appear to let you review the recording you have just made. If you are happy with your recording when you review it, clicking Open In Editor will open a new project in the Project Editor that already has the recording added to the timeline.

Alternatively, if you choose to record again or close the Preview Window to return to the Hub Window, you can still create a project from the new recording by going to the Recordings tab, and then clicking Edit button that appears on top of the recording's thumbnail when the mouse is mvoed over the thumbnail.

See Recording a video for more details about recording.

Creating a New Project

If you don't need to record a new video because you already have one or more video files that you want to import, click the Open Video Editor button on the Hub to open the Project Editor.

When the Project Editor opens, it will create a completely blank project that you can start adding media to from the Media Panel.

See Navigating the Project Editor for more details on editing projects.

If you change you mind later and want to add a Recording to an existing project, instead of clicking Record Your Screen on the Hub, you can click the Record button in the Project Editor. The Recording you save will be added directly to the project that was already open in the Project Editor instead of creating a separate new project for it.
