Edit audio for an imported video

Gareth Casey Updated by Gareth Casey

When you add a video clip to a project, whether it is a Recording made with Flashback Express 7, an import video or a video from the stock library, it will only ever create a single Timeline object, even if it includes audio.

You can change the volume of the audio using the video clip's volume setting in the Style Panel but perhaps you want to have it set to different volumes at different points in the project. Or perhaps you want to get rid of it to replace it with new audio.

In order to do that, you can separate the audio from the video so that you end up with two clips on the Timeline; one for each.

  1. Add you video to the Timeline.
  2. Right click on the video clip.
  3. Select Detach audio.

This will create the additional audio clip, which will be placed on the track below the video clip. Any edits made to the audio clip will not effect the video clip.
